I loved the XD; Dad had a royal blue Fairmont that he bought in October 1980 which reinforced it all for me. The XE was such an intimidating-looking thing, and worthy of an adolescent's worship. The Mustang and Sierra were pretty cars, the Mustang in particular was a stand-out, probably because there weren't too many of 'em out racing.

The first time I visited the workshop and laid eyes on the XD was a special occasion. To see such an icon of my youth in living colour, regardless of the rough and dog-eared appearance was very special. The XE's original unmolested condition (down to the different-sized XMO headlight decals from practice at Bathurst 84) makes it significant, as does its status as the last of the champion big bangers. It'd be great to see the XD restored to her original glory, but I imagine this wouldn't be a high priority within a working race team such as DJR.

The EB... well, 94 was my only visit to the Bald Hills. I camped between the big reservoirs near the gun club, drank the best part of three bottles of scotch on my first night there (had a VERY steady Friday), took four days to blow up my air mattress (finishing on the night before I left for home), spent the last hour of the race behind the DJR pits wasting Dyno's time and chewing his ear (sorry mate), wore a stupid hat all week that the boys got me in Orange when I asked for a beanie... man, what a time! We camped next to a pair of slaughtermen from Wyong who drank more grog than I had ever seen gathered in one spot; our camp included a couple of panelbeaters in a red VR rent-a-car with pumped guards, lurid decals, and Simmonds wheels. The only reason I have never been back is that I couldn't afford to drink like that anymore, and I saw more of the 95 race on TV!

Still it made the EB a special car for me too!

Even tho I'm a V8 man the Sierra was just such an awesome car the way it gave it to bigger engined rivals was amazing. i actually bought a massive poster of it signed by DJ & JB last week fully framed for $40 which I'm realy chuffed with

My father attributes my entire obssesion with DJR to a signed poster of the Sierras, MRJUCY. He replaced my Daffy Duck poster with it, after Bathurst, in '92 :D

My favourite would have to be the Sierra! Fantastic race-record. Untouchable for 2 seasons. 2 ATCC's and a Bathurst win for DJ.

In terms of best-sounding, nothing comes close to the V8 Mustang at Bathurst 1985. That car sounded sensational for a little small-block V8. Best sounding car by a mile!

#1. The '83 Greens Tuf, just before her demise. Gives me goose bumps everytime I watch the video.
#2. The Sierra, for pure speed & engineering. Dicky's best work.
#3. The 1999 AU. Dicky's last. *sniff*
#4. The current Barra. Looks awesome with heaps of potential. Also is the car that saw the re-birth of DJR Club 17.
#5. The EB - great shape change & winning Bathurst.

I last saw the Sierra in the flesh in anger at Eastern Creek 92. As they came around on a parade lap, sans helmets, to grid up for the first race, Dick and Larry Perkins were playing silly buggers: LP was in front of Dick, and as Dick went to go around LP to grid up, LP blocked him: once, twice, three times. Dick clutched the thing, and laid two broken lines around LP as the Sierra sat on the limiter, while Larry, head out the window and laughing his head off, gave him the bird

On results the 1989 Sierra. How could you ignore the car that led EVERY lap of that year's Bathurst 1000, and won with a turbo problem:)

Then there is the only E-Series model to win Bathurst, the EB in 1994.

Mind you, I'm a dinosaur, so I remember the sound of the True Blue XD thundering along, powered by that fantastic 351 Cleveland V8.

The EB does it for me 93 and 94, i remember in 1993 when the Everlast VL got T-Boned by this car.
I loved the sound of the Seirras too.

Yeah, good old Bill O'Brien in the Everlast VL. Driving up through Reid Park 93, runs wide, runs out of talent & straight into the path of #17.. Happened right in front of me..
