1994 #17 EB Falcon:

It may not have dominated the championship rounds like some of it's predecessors (XD, XE, Sierra), or even the EF that got JB his 1995 championship, but to take the win at both Sandown & Bathurst surely means this car has earned it's place as one of DJR's best.

Apart from that the '89 Sierra which lead every lap and won Bathurst was another top pick.

The one that makes my blood race (pardon the pun) is the 1980/81 'True Blue' XD Falcon. The sound of that 351 clevo was enough to send the imports scurrying for a safe hiding place.

My Favourite Djr Car would have to be the XC two door but the one with yellow Chanell 10 stickers on the head light protecters,Greens Tuff XE,Tru Blue XD,Greens Tuff Muzzy(With the white wheels)(Loved those white wheels)When they first come out I liked the model with the wingletts on the front gaurd but now it would be my least favourite followed by the Sierra.Got quite excited with the Westpoint colour and really like the latest Jim Beam Black.Would like to see what it would look like with a black sill all the way instead of that white bit comming down from the door.May be the white bit running towards the front guard above the sill.

For me guys I would have to say any of the Bryan Byrt Ford, Coupes that he raced from 1976 to 1979. The XB GT in 1976 then onto the XC Coupes. Great cars and gave Dick his taste for the big ford V8 which he is still with over 30 years later. It was great to see him at the start of the 1978 race, up to 4th place off the start line. Awesome to watch. Good ol' dvds....lol. He has really been the ford hero in aussie car racing.

Cheers,

Brendon

My favourite DJR car is the 84 Palmer Tube Mills XE Falcon. Back in January 2007, I went up to Bowdens to help prepare all the cars for an open day. This car had only just been brought up to their property and Clive Noonan (Bowdens mechanic) gave it a once over to get it running again.

My job that weekend was to detail it, as we had a special guest coming on the Sunday and he was going to drive it from Davids house down to where all the cars are displayed. That special guest was Dick Johnson.

I spent about 4 hours going over it from head to toe and it came up a treat. When I was finished Chris (Bowden) told me to get in the passanger seat as we had to drive it up to the house ready for Dick. What an experience that was! What a cranky pig of a thing it was. Just like a race car should be! It is an awesome car and everytime I see it I just fall in love with it all over again.

Cheers
John

The pics of the XE look great. Good job on getting a ride as well.

All of Dicks green Falcons are my favourites. I would love to dress up a road car to look just like one minus the stickers.

One of Dick Johnson's most famous race cars returned to the Dick Johnson Racing museum today following a restoration project to keep the car in mechanically working order.

The ATCC winning 1984 Greens-Tuf Falcon, built to replace the 1983 XE Falcon which was destroyed at Bathurst in one of Dick?s most famous accidents, has been absent from the Dick Johnson Racing museum since late 2006 and has been on display at the Bowden?s Own museum on the Sunshine Coast.

Greens-Tuf is a favourite amongst many fans and its return to the Dick Johnson Racing museum will surely be a popular display for visitors to the complex.

The car will replace Dick?s other much-loved XD Falcon, ?Tru-Blu? which is due for a total restoration.

Dick is delighted to have one of his most famous race cars back at DJR headquarters after a lengthy absence.

?It?s great to see the old girl return after quite some time away, many people ask where it is when they come in to visit us and it has always been a popular car amongst the fans.

It will be sad to see Tru-Blu leaving us for a while but it?s about time it had a birthday with a total restoration. I?m sure that it will be in tip-top shape when it returns to us?, Johnson said.

The 1984 ATCC winning Greens-Tuf Falcon will be on display in the DJR museum at 10 Emeri Street, Stapylton, Queensland from Wednesday 4 February.

Also the CATCR vol 5 has the Sandown round from 84, which was the first outing for the brand new XE. It is a credit to the people who built it for the first meeting to have no problems and finish 2nd it the first real test.

It sure will Poita. Tru-Blu is going to get a full resto. It needs it badly.
It sure does... it's probably a shame that it spent time away from DJR in the 80's... and that the boys merely gave it a quick overspray, with contemporary rather than period-correct signwriting (including Shell decals on the headlight covers! grrr). I asked Dick when the old girl last fired a shot, and he said "it's last race" which would've been 1984... but I know that it's done a lap or two of Bathurst since, and Kevin Bartlett drove it for Street Machine in the late 80's, plus it went into the museum under its own power IIRC.

I can never decide if I prefer Tru Blu or Green's Tuf.
I guess I'll just have to say both!
It's probably something to do with the era as well.
Massive fats on the back, sideways going straight and the sheer symphony out of the pipes.
Just awesome!

If one was to be completely and coldly rational about these cars (and why would we stoop to that), I think you'd say that the XD was a very good car, and the XE was a problem child. Had Brock contested the entire 1984 ATCC, I don't think you'd disagree that he'd have taken his fourth title. The 1984 campaign was a troubled one; there was dissension within the team, the car wouldn't handle, but in the end, consistency won the day. The 1984 Aust Competition Yearbook had a very good article on the Greens-Tuf XE, but most people say that the Masterton car was potentially a better unit... or would've been with a DJR engine... Fred Gibson hated the XE, having built one for Joe Moore to replace the XD that prematurely ended the 1981 JH1000 (which he had built as well...)

I found it interesting that of the four Blackwood-Series Falcons Dick built, every second one was a winner...
