I'd have to agree with that TRU-BLU.
To win those championships against a team that was out spending you on everything, one with the resources of a manufacturer behind it as well, was a very impressive thing to do.

The stories of how the HDT had access to the Engineering dept at Fisherman's bend (I've been re-reading stuff from the early days of Group A lately) are quite incredible. While I was still a schoolbody in the eighties, I remember what a huge thing it was when Holden and Brock dissolved the HDT Special Vehicles arrangement (I can still get a rise out of my cousin with a Polariser barb or two). I've enjoyed Harry Firths narratives of late in AMC magazine too... while Lot 6 Mahoney's Road would've been a Ford hoon's paradise in the early '70's, the amount of clout the Silver Fox commanded is incredible if it's to be believed!
