Come on guys... It's not that bad. This is the only thread i can think of that has caused any type of drama... Loosing Doug is a blow, obviously, but Scott (Henry) and myself are going to try our up-most to keep the place going... I'm currently in the process of lining up a new 'Feature Article' guy... I'll keep you all posted!

Ive spoken to Doug privately, and he knows i dont want him to go... But he's got his reasons, and i wish him all the best...

Just to rekindle this topic, not that I seen much of the race on the weekend (I have it taped.) Lowndes made some comment that they have made some gains in corner entry & exit speed on his Car just looking for the straight-line speed that his engineers has to find for him now. I think this rings a bell!!!!

Well steven had the luck on the weekend started from third and still went backward,s so that blew a lot of other people,s theory,s out the door the car must still be missing grunt and setup

In general, DJ's V8 supercar these days have the race speed, not the qualifying speed. If they qualify better, they should get the results they deserve. It might be the drivers to blame but that in itself is difficult to say - how do you measure raw talent? Qualifying is crucial I must say. Q. Why is it that Brocky still hold many records in ATCC history? A. It's because he qualifies well (what else???).[8D]

I thought Brock's domination over so many years had more to do with him driving a Ferrari & everyone else driving Minardi's.

Can't argue with that Rob,
There is no doubting Brock's ability but i think racing with a budget the size of the rest of the entire field certainly help's.
I have often thought would Brock's record be as good as it is, if we had the level of proffessionlism that we have today??
I read somewhere in an atricle a few year's ago that in 1980 MHDT spent more money on tyre's then Dick did on his entire Bathurst assualt

And to think he only won 3 ATCC's Bigcol! I think Larry once said that Dick Johnson should not have had that much success in the early 80's when you look back at how much money the HDT had to play with compared to DJR.

Mr Perfect porbably would have enjoyed the same kind of luck (acomplishment) if he was born 10 years later driving for HRT today. We know how good HRT has been one of the reasons is because HRT also had a superior budget.

Yes i would havt to agree with that Hoonstoppers.

If ever there was 2 people to be in the right place at the right time it was Skaife and Brock

... and Craig Lowndes. I might be a little biased but I think Lowndes was driving the quickest and the best racecar before he made a switched to Fords. If Lowndes wasn't driving for HRT I doubt he will ever been able to have won 3 ATCC in the space of 4 years.

While Brock was undoubtedly an outstanding driving talent, much of his success can be attributed to the likes of people such as Harry Firth, John Sheppard, Larry Perkins (who engineered the MHDT cars 1982-early 1985). I think it would be a telling statistic to compare the number of crashes Brock had in the 70's, 80's and then 90's... interesting that Brock was competitive in the 82 and 84 ATCC's but served a suspension which took him out in 1982, and went OS in 1984. Dick truly did win against the odds on many occasions - a testament to his determination, car-building abilities and a never-say-die attitude

Henry, Brock had success with the people you mentioned helping him but Brock also had factory backing and huge Marlboro sponsorship. Dicks was very much a privateers set up with at one stage only Roy Mcdonald the only permanent employee. I think Dicks 3 championships in the early eighties are very underated
