The system actually works well if you just want to up the price for someone, because you can bid up to a minute after the time is up then the auction runs for a few more minutes, I just bid #5 up to $1120, but it wouldn't let me make another bid when it went to $1170even though at 1.19 it added 4 more minutes , it kept showing error at the maximum $50 raise. I think all the numbers will go over my limit which was $750 , so that sucks, but I took the day off so I will keep looking.

#3 $ 1420 plus gst and buyers premium.

they extended the auction twice and finished it at 11.07 , effectively gazumping the 11.00 bid which was the announced finishing time, the system is too slow and emails don't come for almost 10 minutes.

After it became clear that I wasn't going to get even close to the bid on #1, I set myself a budget of $1000(bid) to try and get a single number. I was at work and my wife was looking after the bids. At 12:00 my time (11:00 auction) my excited wife called to inform me that we had #3 for $900 and something. You couldn't get the smile of my face. That is until she rang back 2mins later to tell me they had extended the time and 2 more bids had come in pushing it well over our budget. I told her not to worry about it, that we would try another #. I arrived home this afternoon to find out that my angry wife had cracked it, continued to bid and won #3 at $1420. I now have mixed emotions about the outcome. I am, as you might expect, over the moon about holding #3, but at the same time not very happy about the price being a few hundred dollars over what I was willing to pay (total price $1718). NOT HAPPY JAN! She also informed me that it took another 45 minutes for comformation via email. This probably comtributed to the lower price of #4, as the auction was over before any of the bidders from #3 knew the outcome.

By the looks of it , the auction mob ( I don't think this is DJR, probably a service provider) did DJR a big disservice not putting No.1 then No. 18 then No.17 last in this auction and had them on Saturday when people could be on-line. The system is so slow that even when making a new bid you can be outbid before you get back to the page. I bid up to $1000, on about the first 6 numbers even though it was really over my budget ( my GST and two BAS are due Next week )and I was amazed at how many bids for the max amount came just on the time limit only to add more time to the auction, we probably all out bid each other.

Anyway I reckon these No.'s will be an investment even though you have to renew them each year, which is interesting, because if we don't renew them , even though we paid for them, can they resell them or can we resell them, I'm hoping we can resell them.

DJR-FAN nice work getting No.3 makes 17 and 18 look like bargains though.

All the memberships will have to be renewed each year and since the fee is about $200, it'll probably be that each year, and even for the first 18, I'd say all the benefits of owning those high numbers are a once off, next year you'll be just like any other member.

What actually happens is, . . . . . . . . some bidders have put in a Maximum bid of e.g.( in that case $650) and the system automatically enters bids in incriments of $50 up to that amount, unfortunately it usually occurs right on time end of auction, beacuse it is automated.

That bidder may have set a maximum bid of $1000, and would have been happy to pick up that item for only $650 , because the automated system will keep puting on an extra bid and thusly extending the time of the auctionuntil either no-one else bids against it , or, a bidder outbids that maximum.

the auction really needs to be live, to be fair.

The auction site is run by a division of img,who receive a % of sales. My point is,why auction memberships? You guy's,the true DJR fans, should have bee given the opportunity to win or bid between yourselves for the top 18 numbers. It make's me wonder,"how much is the JB deal really worth?"Surley,in the overall scheme things, the cost of running a V8 Team, the money generated via this Auction would be insignificant.Good Luck in 07.The cars look great!
Cheers

Hi and welcome Tom, very interesting comments, I have discussed something similar with TS-50 in regards to their Memberships. I understand them auctioning off the first 18 but it would have been a great gesture to recognise the people on this Forum that have been supporters for a long time. They could have given us first option on say, the next 10 or whatever numbers before the general release.

I have read elsewhere that the JB deal is a third of what JD give Perkins, so I guess they need to make up the shortfall somehow.

I Understand all that maximum bid stuff, my wife being an ebatyer explained it. BUt 3 seconds from finish time, give me a break. It smells at it aint a pretty smell. I had bid at 8am in the morning, the automated bid as per ebay would have come straight after my bid.

Totally agree, the system sucks, as I've said I don't like on line auctions anyway, but this is the worse one ever, you're absolutely correct that 3 seconds from the end a new bid is made ain't fair if it's the way the automated system is set up, and the extension of time up to 5 times in one case i watched, just isn't cricket .

Like I said i reckon it cost legit bids when after one or two sessions of trying to obtain a Number , ran into half hour extended sessions, people just didn't bother the next day and thats why there wern't even bids for the last three Numbers.

It may be just me, but I would have expected numbers that were former numbers used on Dicks cars over the years to fetch the greater $$$$ e.g. #4(Torana & EH I think), #5(XA H'Top Sports Sedan), and #13(first XB ATCC car).

I fully agree with you TS and newhat, the auction could easily have been conducted better and fairer.

Congratulations to all the successful top 18 punters out there!!!:D
