I'm still not convinced that the agenda you benders speak of actually exists, but either way, it was an ordinary refereeing performance on Friday night. Anyhoo, go the Warriors!!!!

I am a Wynnum Manly Boy and I had to go to Suncorp for the game. I did what my dad did in 95. I took my 3 boys to watch WN get the grand prize. Atmosphere was awesome

I was there with my neighbour.

Both got home a bit pissed
As much as i love the Broncs. Wynnum is really my team.
I'm a former wynnum junior

I was there in 82, 84, 85 when they lost, 86, and 95
Would go and watch them play whenever i had the chance during the eighties.
Now i only go on the big occassions or when the neighbour talks me into going

That 84 side would have beaten any club side in the world at the time.
Lewis, Miles, the French brothers, Colin Scott, Greg Dowling, Gary Coyne, Tony Kajewski, The 3 Greens. None of Greens were rep players but they were some of the toughest and best club players going and Brian Walsh who used to make Wally Lewis work his arse off before Lewis came home to Wynnum

They beat a souths team that was coached by Wayne Bennett and contained Gary Belcher, Mal Meninga, Bob Lindner and Peter Jackson 42 - 8 in the final
A record that would never be beaten in the BRL

IIRC Ron McAuliffe and the Brisbane press wanted a club challenge between Canterbury and Wynnum.
The NSWRL wouldn't do it. Maybe they were scared of losing to a Brisbane side

You kids make me laugh!
I was there in the late fifties and saw Lionel Morgan play many games!
My mum's cousin used to be their second grade coach. :D

Also saw many matches played by the late great Trevor Niebling (Tank!) in the 60's.

Unlike yourself we didn't get to play next to Moses

My Grandmother knitted Lionel Morgan some warm clothes when he went on the kangaroo tour to England.

I went through school with Lionels and Billy McDermotts kids
Still see David Morgan around the place seeing he's moved into the Redlands as well

Father taught all of Lionels boys how to play Tennis

Can remember snippets of Kougari Oval in the lat sixties. Used to walk down the road from the grandparents house.
Remember the seventies better with Nev Hornery, John Rhodes, Kieth Smith, Warren Orr and Lew Platz

Those days, you could take your footy out onto the field during half time and after the game.

playing school boy and junior football. It was always an honour to play on the same field as the Wynnum Manly A grade side

I was at lang park for the first origin and didn't miss one for years after, but watching Wynnum Manly win it's first in 82 was better than any origin and Lang park that day, was full to the brim with red and green.
It was also a new ground record. 35500. You couldn't fit anymore in.

What were you doing in the Wynnum area back then Gerry??

We used to go heaps of games in the 80's. I am only a 77 model so only remember a few things. I remember 95 well as it was the year after I finished grade 12. Missed a few years prior due to being a teen.
I never get sick of reading the list of players. What a team. What an era.
Greg French live around the corner. Greg Downing lived at the top of the street and later moved directly accross the road from me. We moved about a month later.
The inlaws still sponsor the club and Mum in law is there most Sundays. We will have to steal her spot at a game next year Col. Free booze and nibbles

She can still come.

She's just got to invite us and share the grog and food

My parents owned the 2 tennis courts opposite Wynnum north high till we moved down to Redland bay.
At the start of pre season training we used to have the A grade and reserves hiring both courts for a bit of team bonding

Manly 24 - 10

I'm sure the Kiwi fans will have something to say about the influence of the refs in the first half, but int he last 15 minutes a tired Manly held off a committed Worriers attack and forced them to error time and again which resulted in a try in the last minute converted and a bigger win that the game would have suggested.

2011 over,. . . move along . . . nothing to see here.[jk]
