The thing with the Monaro was that it was a GT car running around with production cars. I was opposed to it then, but if they want to bring them back now that there is some fair competition, be my guest, we may even see that they really were'nt that good.

If the organisers of this event spend some money and play their cards right, I can see teams from Europe and the US bringing their cars over here. I just don't know about 12hrs, may have to make it a 24hr race to make it worth while to make the effort.

This event could be another Spa, Nurburgring, or Daytona 24hr race. LeMans? I think that event may always stand alone.

All the rest of the world wanted was a level playing field. Not quite what Ross Palmer had in mind.

The Monaro would get arse whipping from the Euro's, You could try Garry Rogers [crackup]
Audi has assured promoters they will be here next year as it is their off season and its too cold to test in Europe, The driver of the Matt Black Audi were reffering to Bathurst as "Mini Nurburgring" the second best track in the world!
Yep Damo it has potential for sure as its in that window for the Euro's to come out, Just dont know about the ALMS cars?
Here is an idea to think about, What about SuperGt cars from Japan? they are a 5 hr plane trip away and would'nt be far off the times of the GT spec cars.

Change the date slightly to get the ALMS cars over as they have just run the Daytona 24hr, and get the Japs over too,the more the merrier I say. Bring it on!!!

it was the Gran-Am series' that ran the Daytona 24 hour, granted some of the GT cars may be eligible for ALMS it's a totally different series

My brother was talking to one of the drivers who had been driven around the track in a road car upon arival and he was saying "this can't be the track".

[crackup] Was interesting to see that across Skyline they were not taking the "European Line", Lowndes must have been giving them a few pointers.

Well next Weekend its on again, Audi will be back to defend the Title, But this time with a different customer team "Team Pheonix".
Steve Johnson will partner up with Richo Jnr and Tinkler in a Porsche Cup spec car, With sponsorship from Hunter Ports and Tinkler Sports Group.

My brother was talking to one of the drivers who had been driven around the track in a road car upon arival and he was saying "this can't be the track".

The story goes.... (Henry may be able to confirm, deny or add to the story ???) :

When A.G.M (OAM) first arrived in the land of OZ, as fresh faced 'Canuck' ('68 -'69?) - Someone from Broadmeadows took him for 'pleasant drive' to Mt Panorama! (to my way of thinking, more of an 'expedition' than a 'pleasant drive' from Melbourne?).

Anyhoo.... he eventually found himself on a 'Tourist' Road where his host kept stopping & pointing-out the magnificent scenery etc. etc.

After some time, Moff looked at his watch (it had been a very early start) and said something along the lines of... "It's getting a bit late... maybe we should move-on and visit the Racetrack, as it's a long trip back...?"

Whereupon his (nameless) host declared.. "The Racetrack?? .... We've been on it for the last 20 Minutes!"

An astounded Moff looked around... and peered to his left over the sheer drop (remember... not even a fence there in those days, let alone a concrete wall) at "Skyline".......

..... On many occasions, I have heard Moff state: "Since that one time... I have NEVER looked to my left, at 'Skyline' ................. [drive]

I'm heading down to this event early Thursday morning. I always had a lot of respect for the track and the drivers who push it to the limit here, but after racing there for the last two years, I have a lot more respect for their abilities and courage.

Really looking forward to seeing some world class GT cars pushed to the limit. Should be a great weekend.

Do yourself a favour and watch the first laps from Skyline as the sun is rising straight in the drivers eyes as they drop off into the Esses, And the glow from the brakes is awesome.

I was very surprised that Tinkler held it together.
The two Steves and he finished 4th overall and won their class!!

Hope you took your wet weather gear with you, what category did you race in?

Was a great result for the Steve's and Tinkler, good to see them get through a race without problems.

Thankfully we had enough protection to keep us mostly dry on Sunday :)

It was a great weekend overall, even given the rain on race day.

I have previously raced Production Sports Cars at Bathurst. Sprint races in 2010 and a one hour enduro in 2011. Caught up with a couple of people over the weekend and spoke about a possible 12hr drive in the next couple of years.
