Crocodile Hunter, Ecologist, Researcher, larrikin, father, legend; dead at 44, the victim of a near-surreal sting ray encounter.

Whether or not you were drawn to his ocker way, whether or not he made you cringe, or laugh, or goggle at his antics, it's hard not to feel sadness at his passing, if not for the loss of one of Australia's more unusual charactersm then for the loss of a doting father.

Australia has lost one of her best mates.

Absolutely Henry! He was a bloody character & brave bugger at that. Anybody who mucks around with croc's & snakes without a shotee in ya hand is a much braver man then me!

On the positive side he died doing what he loved & it wasn't a bloody car or plane crash or something that took his life..

RIP Steve Irwin..

Steve was an inspiration to everyone who has any passion for aninamls and the environment, he was also the son of a man with the same passion. Steve was also a picture for determination and a visionary when it came to Australian fauna.
After his fathers Reptile Park suffered the wrath of political animosity, Steve brought new life to the business, his enthusiasm , his take no prisoners attitude and his ability to make things happen built his business into Australias premier ecological , environmental themed tourist attractions. Steve , you moved at a level above most mere mortals, you moved toward your goals faster than most people could understand, you succeded in the face of advercity , you'll be missed desperately by those who loved you, missed badly by all who knew you and missed as an aussie ledgend by everyone who meerly knew of you.

RIP Steve.

Words can not describe the shock & disbelief that comes with his death. A true icon & larger than life man whose legacy will be remembered through his work and of course his family.
Husband & father - My heart just breaks for his wife and kids in their most terrible days.
I love that the Zoo is open today because "He would have kicked our butts for sitting around crying".

Steve - You absolute bloody legend. Life here will not be the same.

CRIKEY heaven - you're in for a wild ride [:X]

My youngest son is on his way up to Australia Zoo on Thursday for a school excursion, he was so looking forward to going and to hopefully see Steve there. He is now so upset he doesn't want to go at all.

Steve's death has affected so many people around the world, both young and old, love him or loath him he was a great Australian and great for Australia, he will be sadly missed by so many.

Rest in peace Crocodile Hunter, you have earned it.

Deepest sympathies, prayers & condolences to Steve's family & friends.
It's just such a big loss when the world loses someone the calibre of Steve Irwin: a top bloke that makes us proud to be Australian.

I have been trying to think of another person who has the same passion, energy, and determination, and who has the ability to make millions of people that have never met him feel like they know him. His family was the most important thing to him and our thoughts are with them.

More than one tear has been shed in this household.

R.I.P. Steve.

The global shock at Steve's passing is staggering. The number of people who have found themselves near tears (and I include myself here) at his passing is staggering. I've been travelling with a couple of guys from Finland for the last week, a country not quite noted for its population of stingers and biteys, and both of my companions were rocked to the core when we heard the news courtesy of the truckies coming and going on the site we've been working on... and this morning, following calls back home, both marvelled at the impact on the news in their homeland.

Steve was loved the world over for his passion, and child-like sense of wonder at the world's animal marvels. It may be that we won't see such a citizen of the world again in our lifetime. A truly remarkable individual. Heaven is the richer.

I like so many others find it hard to believe it still, its been over 24hrs since the sad news of his passing. I can only retierate what you guys have already said, I just can't find the right words now. Sincere condolences to Terri and the kids.

People, show your love for your loved ones every day.

Premier Pete has offered a state funeral at the families decision. (hope the sly prick isn't just scoring points before this weeks election).

Rest in Peace Crocodile Hunter.
Yes Henry, Heaven is definately the richer.
