:(

Test days were the best , come and go as you please, no crowds, intimate access, chance for pics and a chat with drivers and Team ownwer or members, close up view of the pits and how they service the cars etc.

I for one, am really going to miss that and I have to admit it was tough to get out to some of the mid week ones.

So along come cochbrain with a new Idea and stuffs it all up, now it'll be gold coin per entry (wich goes to Variety - worthy cause ) bu7t the real shocker is that it will now be fully marshalled and that means no up close contact and no near track positions.

It sucks

Yes it's disappointing that they see fit to take control of the tests days now. Gone will be the days when you could walk out on pit wall and have a chat with the drivers and crew, it won't be the same, we'll probably get slugged for parking as well.

After only ever have been to 1 test day and experiencing how open it was to the public, I thought they were brilliant but I have to say I'm not surprised to hear this.

I reckon too many were going and possibly distracting the teams, when traditionally teams can go for it without the distraction of the public / fans.

Does any one know how this will affect the "open day" launch on the 14th at QR?
Will it be launch day for Southern/Holden teams only at Winton and the Qld/Ford teams only at QR?

The 14th at QR is an official Test Day as is the 12th at Winton, the open Launch Day is in Melbourne on the 9th of February, two seperate events.

Ahh.. Thanks Poita!
I thought it was a combined launch and later on practise.
Might still go for a look maybe, see how work is then.

Better check with teeh ladies lads, as 14th is Valentine's day.

I think that the scheduling and Marshalling of the test days is good as it means that more teams will be on display at a time, thus more fans are likely to roll up which can only be a good thing for the series as a whole. We should still be able to get pretty close (especially at QR) and it would still be a great day out I reckon.

Ahh Stoney..... you romantic!

Valentines day 2008. Pack the esky with some chilled champagne and strawberries, load into the car with picnic rug and your favourite lady, a nice drive in the country, look for a gentle sloping grassed vantage point to make the best of the breath taking sceanery. Roll out the rug, open the champers, just intime to see the first practice session of the V8's come stormin' out of the pits![8D]

Win - Win!:)

WTF is going on now, this from the V8 Supercar site. Why should we have to pay $20 per car when Victorians can get into Winton for $1 each, as Jim Richards once said, there "A pack of assholes".

Anyone own a mini bus who's going out to the test day?[B)]

V8 Supercar Official Test Days - Victoria and Queensland
Release Date: 16/01/2008
V8 Supercars Australia will next month host two official team test days for the media and the public to see the new 2008 driver line-ups, car liveries and teams in action for the first time.

There will be one official test day at Winton Raceway on February 12 and the other at Queensland Raceway on February 14. These test days will consist of all Victorian teams testing at Winton and Queensland teams at Queensland Raceway. Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series teams are also invited to attend.

Entry to Winton Raceway will be by gold coin donation with entry to Queensland Raceway a $20 per car fee. All monies go to official charity Variety Australia.

The media and the public are welcome to attend either day. With significant driver movement and new sponsorship arrangements it is a unique opportunity to see these new look teams prior to the start of the Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Who: V8 Supercar Championship Series drivers and teams
When: Tuesday February 12 Winton Raceway, Thursday February 14 Queensland Raceway
Time: 9am-5pm Winton Raceway, 8am-6pm Queensland Raceway (TBC)
Venue: Winton Raceway, Queensland Raceway

The days will be themed as a mini race day and official timing will be available at both.

A copy of an email I sent to VESA.

Can you please explain to us supporters in QLD why we have to pay $20/car to attend a Test Day and entry into Winton is from as little as $1/person. I am part of a group that attends most Test Days at QR and we as a group would like to know what our entry fee entitles us to that for previous years cost $0. I don't mind making a donation to any worthwhile charity but there does not appear to be much option compared to those attending Winton.

It is going to be an interesting first test to the season, isn't it.

While I seriously don't like mercinary overcharging, which this seems to be ($20 per car ; they should wash and polish it for that as well)) I don't mind the gold coin donation to variety.

What I will be interested to see is how much having Marshalling and V8 management operating the day will affect the freedom we've become accustomed to on the previously very informal test days.

So far it's a big thumbs down to QR for $20 a car greed ![)][)][)]assclowns!

TS-50 and his son will be going as well and my father in-law so that will be five of us. We can meet at my place if that suits you HH and TS-50 as I'm only 2 minutes off the Beaudesert road exit of the Logan Motorway. We'll work out what vehicle we take and the time we go when it gets a little closer. Let me know what you guys think of that.

Got an email from them stating they have changed the entry conditions for QR.

Dear Peter

Thank you for your email.

We have re-negotiated the entry fee for the QR Test day and it will now
be the same as Winton i.e. a Gold Coin donation per person with all
proceeds going to Variety Club of Australia.

Cheers,
