Should other manufacturers be in the v8s?

Been to a few information sessions at work {Toyota} and the word is Toyota are going to concentrate on motorsports to broaden their appeal to younger drivers. This is obvious when you look at the drivers they have signed for the F1 next year, Trulli and R.Schumacher. The next Camry out in 05 is a v6 210kw, produced from just a 3.3 litre engine. Makes you wonder what they could get out of a v8. Personally I dont want any other cars but Ford or Holden in, its exciting racing as it is![?]

Toyota has been playing a different ball game. I will probably laugh to death if there will be a V8 as similar to the commodore and falcon in character and output driving the rear wheels. V8 supercars should be reserved for Holdens and Fords. GTP is for everyone.

Personally I'd like to see Mitsubishi with a Dodge NASCAR V8. Having at least three manufacturers would stop the kind of influence Holden has over the rule makers. If one manufacturer was geting too big for its boots, the other two could gang up to get some balance. At the moment, bullying tactics by people like Larry Perkins have the rule makers bluffed. John Bowe and Glenn Seton have been calling for proper wind-tunnel test for ages, but there is no action. If the shoe was on the other foot, Holden would be baying for blood and getting it. In the old NASCAR days, one manufacturer would threaten to boycott and NASCAR could afford to say 'see you later...' eventually the manufacturers would return with their tails between their legs.

The only way i would like to see Mitsubishi and Toyota enter if V8 Supercars is if they make a rear wheel drive v8 as a production car.
If they can't go to the effort to produce this particular model to sell to the general public then stuff them.
They want in? Well spend the dollars and make a car similar of size rear wheel drive and a 5.0l v8 and then join the fun

Yeah thats the whole issue BigCol, whether Toyota would go back to rear wheel drives. And even if they did, Ford and Holden should tell Toyota to stay out as they have invested so much $$$, to make the V8 supercars series what it has become.

Because only lexus produced rear wheel drive sedans, maybe they have a real shot in making history by modifying the next GS with rather similar specifications and dimentions to the local V8 Supercar. It's current size looks to be quite similar to the Commodore and Falcon. Just don't need those ****s like Sat Nav, 8 airbags and woodgran steering wheel!

I also forgot to mention that i think that if they want to race in the V8 series the cars should also be locally manufactured.

I like to see Toyota go back to the drawing board and design it's next family large vehicle as large as the Falcon and still offers it's current 4 cylinder and V6 but introduces a a 4.7litre V8 from the Landcruiser driving the rear wheel drive only. Anyone think there's a problem with such design?

There is only about 100mm difference in size HS. As for the GS Lexus, its actually not that silly, as Toyota [as it owns Lexus] could chuck a new v8 engine in it, rebadge it, make it in Oz, like the Camry, and Bobs your uncle. But, Holdens and Fords would be crazy to let them in as they have invested so much to make it what it is today. And HS Toyota will never go back to front wheel drives unless they did it specifically to get in to the v8 series.

Sure Big col Toyota dont make a real wheel drive V8 but i dont think there is much Holden hardware in the racing Commodores except for the body shell

Thats correct Tru Blu Ford nine inch rear end Falcon double wishbone front suspension.
The only thing in a V8 Commodore that is made by Holden is the body shell

Peter L, Mercedes no longer makes conservative looking vehicles for 50+ customers. This, together with their ongoing involvement with motorsport seems to be their formula in delivering more car sales to younger owners.

Read an article in the Advertiser (SA Paper), stating that Ford and Holden were annoyed Cochrane was trying to get other manufacturers in by 2006 I think it was by memory, without consulting them first. As I mentioned on the 28/9/04, both are not happy that they have invested so much to make it what it is today just to have another manufacturer share there limelight. If a Camry won Bathurst, the gap between Toyota and Holden in new car sales would become even more ridiculous than it has already become in the last 2 years.. I cant see Holden ever letting them in, and if Cochrane went over there head, I wouldnt mind putting money on Holden and Ford starting a rebel competition..
