Symonds Plains(97or98)Race3: Lowndes,HRT won by 7sec after bolting of the line never to be seen again.Ingall,Castrol Row 2 got just as good start and jumped in front of Skaife,HRT before hairpin with Bargwanna,Valvaline 4th & Brighty in Pertek 5th.The next group but not
sure of position were S.Richards,Valvaline.D.J; L.P; & Ramano.Seeton finnished well up in the top ten after starting from near the Rear.It was good clean raceing from everyone for the whole race. The incar shot from Skaife`s car looking across at Ingall as they rub panells side by side down the back straight was awsome. That gave Skaife the line for the left hander and Bargs followed and almost nudged him out of the way while also rubbing panells with Ingall.A lap later and the Pirtek Falcon was up the inside of Ingall who went from 2nd to 5th in 2 laps. There was plenty of dicing going on behind as well.FANTASTIC!!

gotta be Bathurst 07 for me.

When you consider that our team was about to go into administration in late 06 and then to turn around and be as comepetitive as we were last year let alone have a team to support and achieve a Bathurst podium and almost win the whole damn show on the hill and to share the tears of joy with Jilly, the back bone of "our" team, and the rest of the team for the last 30 laps, well thats pretty bloody good to me.

long live DJR I say...

Most Bathurst 1000's are my favourite races to watch, Yes 1994 is up there with my favourites.
Among others,
-Brighty and Richo in the Pirtek EL in 1998 started from outside the top 10 and won.
-Lowndesey Bathurst 2006 "He did it for the King".
-And Perkins and Ingall last to first effort in the VR?.

I'm with you Hardies Hero, last years Bathurst was a stand out for Jnr and DJR AND Mum and Dad - Soooo close too.
The wife and kids at home were as choked up as me when Jnr was leading.

Dick and Bowe in England in '88.

Ingall vs Skaife at the Creek, THAT swerve!!!

I said '94 not only because DJ/JB won. The wet weather driving early on from Larry and Brock ,Alan Jones and co. was sensational.

Haven`t watched much old stuff for a while, but when you mentioned the wet weather driving.Yes that surley was good,I think there was plenty of different leaders, depending on what track conditions suited the different tyres and L.P. Getting it sideways out of the cutting every lap."Think he really wanted to beat Brock that year" Oastler calling it like Sprint Car Raceing.Just watched the 99 Bathurst Today and I Really enjoyed seeing 55 Cars on the Grid[:p]

There has been so many great races over the years it's getting hard to pick just one. I can't argue with any of the fore-mentioned races as they were all classics, especially Bathurst 94 & that Calder Carnage in 85.

How about that 84 Surfers race that was mentioned on another thread where there was a classic battle between DJ, Moff & Harvey & McLeod! Most of the stuff DJ did at Lakeside was classic & I can recall a race there in 94 I think when DJ muffed the start & put on some classic passes on some of the best drivers of that time. What makes that stick in my mind so much, is the fact that DJ was pushing 50 years old at the time & was proving once again that on his day, he was as good as anyone in Australia.

Some of the older footage is unbelievable if you can grab hold of it, and anything involving Big Pete was usually just sensational. I was watching a replay of a race at Warick Farm the other day which involved Moff & Geoghean in Ph 2's & Bond & Digby Cooke in Monaros & it was unbelievable racing especially from Geoghean. The control that man had in a motor car was just unbelievable.

If that man was in a modern day Supercar, everyone would be fighting for 2nd!!!!! He was just sooooooo good!!

Big Pete would have been so much faster if he lost 50kgs too! He was by all accounbts the most gifted of his era, and certainly one of the all-time greats.

Favorite race

Where else but Lakeside 1981.
DJ getting the jump off the line and then holding Brock out with a broken front sway bar.
Luckily a good 351 always had more grunt than a boat anchor 308

The TV footage of the two cars into the Kink is unreal, they were hammering!

Symmons Plains 1990, Brock v Johnson in Sierras, hammer-and-tongs, and CLEAN. It took DJ a while to get past Brock, and he finally made it out of the hairpin. Brock was completely out of control into the hairpin, and it would've been too easy to unload him on the exit, but it never happened, Dick even pausing to allow Brock to gather up a half-spin, and off they went again... great stuff...
