It was mentioned by Billy Woods on the sports news as well. Does that mean Canto for the 17, or somebody from left field

I thought Lowndes would be the ideal driver for the job. It's hard to pick a more complete driver than him. Lowndes contract with 888 has expired I think.

Lowndes still has another year at 888 as he signed up for 2 years. Interestingthe way a weekend can change the view point. Now Steve is a front runner for the SBR seat and he wasn't even mentioned until a couple of weeks ago. It is those quiet ones you've gotta watch. ;);) If Steve moves on - then Canto for #17.

The mail I have is that SBR have come to terms in principal with a driver, but no official announcement will be made until the contract is inked. The rumour also suggests that Russell may be playing second-fiddle again. Just so you are all aware, I do not know who it is )

mmm Jnr at Stone Bros, Strong combination.
I hopr this becomes a reality so he can prove that he can perform well in another orginisation.

If what Rob is saying is correct then with Ingall playing econd fiddle i can't see Junior commanding top billing at SBR.

I can't really see it happening but in a way I'd like to see Steve in a good proven car again to see what he can do & shut a few people up. Saying that tho I'd rather just see DJR build a good car

Why I'd like to see jnr stay at DJR:

1. History; I couldn't imagine another name put next to #17.
2. Jnr is leading this team out of its ordinary form of recent times, if he can continue to build it up, the satisfaction would be far greater than hopping into the top car and team and riding on their achievements.
3. Jnr in most cases has out performed his team mates, most of whom are competitive drivers in their own right.
4. If he went to SBR and did well, he wouldn't be given the credit for it by the critics, but would say its SBR team and their car is the reason he did well.
5. And for the same reason, if he couldn't reproduce Marcus' results, he would be left hung out to dry and cop it all from the critics again.

Marcus is leaving some pretty big boots to fill at SBR, pity any man that goes there thinking they can automatically acheive the same results.

It will be interresting to see how well SJ will go at SBR. In his career he has managed just one pole[:I] and I think he should deserve more than that. DJR in 2005 main weakness is it's lack of pace in qualifying and I wonder is this due to Steve not pushing the car hard enough or DJR just don't have the pace. That can only be find out I think if Steve drive for SBR in 2006.

I agree with you nascar12. Steve has everything to lose by going to SBR. It will put alot of pressure on him to perform(which I think he would) and would gain little recognition even if he did.
I would like to see him be competitive in Number 17. It is still achievable!

Ingall would have to be seen as the main driver at SBR.
so a lower driver would have to get the seat.

#17 Johnson

Steve can't go to SBR, Jett isn't old enough to take the seat in #17.

No other name should ever be allowed next to #17. If (and it's a big IF) Steve was to go to SBR, DJR should run #18 and #19.

CAMS and the TEGA board should retire the number 17 and only allow its use at the permission of one man, Dick Johnson. This way even if DJR no longer held a licence in the category no team could ever use #17.

Many other sports around the world have retired a greats number as a tribute to their achievement.

Yep, not a bad idea if jnr leaves. Retire the number til he returns and in the meantime, let "lil' JJ" hang it off his pram / baby walker.

By the By, one thing that may be going for jnr to go to the Pirtek car he might pick up #4, which was a number Dick had for some of his Holden years. The poor bugger can't get out of the oldmans shadow that easy.
