I forgot to tell youse about the new car... probably because it's not all that exciting, but I thought I'd better drag myself out of the Members Posts thread before Poita cracked it with us for carrying on like weirdos...

So my job changed... and thus the perks too. Instead of a fully serviced company car, I was given a novation allowance, and told to organise my own... so it was bye bye to the Territory after only 4 months.

Missus wanted to do some camping and off-roading, and thought a Pathfinder would be alright... I wanted an XR8... allowance wouldn't cover either option and any spare cash I might be able to scrounge goes straight on the mortgage we have on the block and pile of bricks and tiles that they're organising into something habitable up the road...

So Henry is the proud custodian of an X-Trail Ti... and it ain't too bad! So far we've down the Cooloola Sands a couple of times, and will be looking for any excuse to get as far off the beaten track as you dare to in a soft-roader with no low range, no ground clearance, and street rubber. Won't be following Col to the Cape in it, but it's doing alright!

You post whore
Anything to get your count up.

Seriously. An Xtrail isn't a bad little buzz box
Not bad performance but the lack of low range does hurt.
Will have to organise a weekend at Double Island Point or something

kenoath, you're on! It's funny, there's a pack of people quite passionate about them, they've got a bit of a cult following. It certainly surprised the father in law for its sand-draggin ability...

Need to find a good lift kit for it to make it work properly; runs out of clearance before it runs out of traction...

Actually, when the lease expires on it, I'll probably go for another Falcon or something, and get myself a cheap old 70 or 80 Series Cruiser, or a Rangie or something that I can lean on trees without crying about scratched duco.

Mate go looking for a second hand ual cab with the latest engine tech like Commonrail or at least Electronic diesel injection.
They run on an oily rag where as the older landcrushers drink more than an old gin

Happy trails in the X-trail Henry, always exciting getting a new car.
Can't believe you're getting out of a Terri, I love those things, had mine for a year now and still like it as much as the day I bought it. But, if the boss, aka missus likes it, its all good,.... as they say "Happy wife, happy life"!

I'm getting into my first 4wd this week - '99 Bravo Dual cab. Always a bit of a worry buying used, but heres hoping.....
BTW, this is my first non Ford purchase in over 23 yrs.

Funny thing is that she's missing the surefootedness of the big Ford... the Nissan gets blown all over the road, and tramlines like a bitch... and has 100hp less... still, I don't mind it too much.

Good luck with the Bravo, nascar! 23 years! Man, I went 18 years continuously in Ford product, and still have an AU at least...

I own an old gin (60 Series 2H Diesel Cruiser). We went to the cape in it last year and she didn't miss a beat. The plastic piles of poop that we travelled with were a different story though. At the end of each day we would simply get another bag of zip ties out and patch them up.

Cheers
John

Hey, don't make fun of the zip ties, I have colour coded ones holding the bumper of my BA XR6 together. Supposably they aren't meant to go off road....

Hey thats ok John.

Did the cape 2 and half years ago in an 04 series 2 TD Navara.

I had a Landbruiser with a 2H , when i bought the Navara i halved my weekly fuel bill. Plus i had something that would pull the top off a rice pudding.
Strangely enough apart from a blown fuse i didn't have a problem going up there, where as some "more capable" 4wds had plenty

Speaking of Landbruisers, I heard the funniest story the other day. A very good mate of mine was telling me that his father(who is more than slightly eccentric) was performing some repairs to his 60 series and had to drive to the shop with the front shock absorbers removed. When he returned home he told my mate that it actually handled better without the shocks and promptly removed the rears aswell![hb][hb][hb] The car was due for rego the other day and he was knocked back on the lack of shock absorbers.[sh] He returned home and drilled a hole in the shocks to drain any oil/gas out of them, welded the holes back up, hit 'em with the grinder and some wet n dry and a coat of paint later they looked like brand new. He puts them back in the car and gets the pink slip.

So now there is a silly old bugger driving around in a 60 series Cruiser with no damping whatsoever![crackup][crackup]

My missus wants us to upgrade to a Dual Cab Navara next year. I reckon that they are the best value for money on the market and I can fit in them so I reckon that we will end up with one in the garage. I am not sure if I will sell the cruiser but. It owes me bugger all and is a part of the family.

Thats how my old 75 was. I owned it so long that it was part of the family but everything has to end and it got traded.

Have some fantastic memories of that old thing

The real thing I noticed about the X-Trail was the lack of grunt, it is underpowered and also when in normal driving mode it's is a front driver which is a bit odd feeling sometimes because of the size.
Not trying to be disrespectful or anything but I bet you miss the territory,

In some ways I certainly do! The Territory, like much of the local (particularly Ford ;)) product is a well-finished and reliable product. It sits well on the road, has as much power as a pre-XW performance Falcon (190kW = near as dammit 260hp), fits everything you could want to carry + the three anklebiters.

The X-Trail has 100hp less, gets thrown about in the breeze, tramlines, doesn't feel as "solid"... but it is what it is... and for what it is, I like it!

Despite having enjoyed the Terry, I probably wouldn't get another one... would certainly have an FG XR8 though! My boss picked up his G6E turbo on Friday, and ain't it a peach?

Yeah, they are sweet, I saw them at the launch at Q Springwood, real nice, I got no money so I'm even going to look at them again.

Well, now i get to tell you about my new car. Have taken the plunge, and am trading the ole 03 BA XR6 in for a FG XR6T.
It arrived at the dealers at 6am this morning (No I wasn't there to greet it, too early for me!).
Unfortunately I live about 300ks from the dealer, so won't get to pick it up until I head down there for christmas. But am getting very excited about my xmas present, all I need now is a big tree to put it under.....[drive]
