Rumours suggest that the mighty Greens-Tuf has been sold to the Bowden Collection, with the Group A Mustang. And the Moffat Group C XY, and 1970 Bathurst-winning XW have been sold.

HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD?!?!?!?

Mind you, I'm heading down to see the Moffat Mustang in the showroom at Satpylton next week....

Henry, is the source of the rumour a reliable one?

I couldn't say... a reasonably reputable source saw them on the trucks heading north... there was talk of a "loan", but another - and not entirely disreputable - poster mentioned that Bowdens had off-loaded a couple of old Falcons, and that the word was that two cars from the DJR Collection had changed hands. As I said, Moff's Stang is apparently on loan to DJR for a couple of weeks...

unless the old girls are headed north for a freshen-up... although I would've thought that the XE - possibly the most original remaining Group C car - wouldn't really require anything it couldn't get at home. S'pose there's a couple of ways to find out... will post more when a couple of people answer some emails...

Hopefully then it may be a rotation of cars on display at Stayplon as I recall seeing Beechys XY on display there in late 2004.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Especially not the XE. Hopefully this is not a sign of DJR being short of $$$$$. Why else would they sell them??

Well, if it's the dollars, I'd say it's a pragmatic decision... what's he gunna use more - the boat or the cars?

Really, it's no biggie - the cars are in good hands, and will be seen (and even perhaps on-track at times!!!) at all sorts of events around the place.

My big thing was that the cars meant enough to Dick that they were either retained or re-purchased ovre the last 22 years, before the Stapylton facility and showroom saw the light of day... they were almost family, especially to fans like us.

More than a little upset I didn't have the chance to put in an offer...

Would have been and interesting negotiation coming to a price for the XE.

If there is to be an ownership change, or taking on some partners silent or otherwise or even a public float of some kind where the assets including the museum pieces become part of the whole company asset base; Dick may have wanted to simply have these important historical memoirs somewhere safe and out of any kind of corperate structured ownership. For all we know Dick may have come to an agreement to permenently loan the car and still retains ownership.

I have divided feelings on this. In some ways whats the use of keeping those famous cars for their investment value if you're never going to sell them? But to find out they're all gone incl my favourite, the XD, is a shock. Of course the Bowdens look after them well but at the end of the day they're in it to make a $$ and if the right price is offered they'll sell them too.

Who can remember how much Moffat wanted back his Mustang in last years Aust Muscle cars show on TV? Even Bob Jane still has his Camaro and wouldn't think they'd part company as long as he's alive.

I'd get out of the development series before I'd sell those beauties, but FIRST, I'd sell the boat, bloody great floating money pit those big jiggers are.

I only seen it at car shows where its been roped of out of touch range, but at DJ's you should get the whole touchy feely experience with it.
I reckon you'll cream. :D

Dick would never have kept them for their investment value, while I guess some of that does enter into the other side of things: witness the price that Bowdens got for the ex-French, Bryan Byrt Ph 3 GTHO (reportedly $700K!!!). Hopefully Tru-Blu may gain a full resto out of it, as it, above all, deserves it.

And yeah, I reckon there's a fair chance I'll cough in my rompers as I walk thru the door...

I'm a bit suprized & a little saddened about Dicky selling his cars. :(
But then again...they are his and he can do whatever he wants with them.
I just reckon it's a bit of a shame.

It's a business decision, nothing more, nothing less. Speculatively, I'd say that they're still smarting a little from the Westpoint "deal".

Anyhow, the XD is still in her pride of place on the right of the entrance, on the left is Allan Moffat's Mustang in all her glory, next to that is the #9 Camaro (IMMACULATE), with the Sierra cordoned off with them. The EB and AU round out the showroom as it sits today.... apparently, there will be some movements of the cars between Buderim and Stapylton, so it represents a great opportunity to see a whole heap of historic muscle... and to visit our favourite team!

Ok Chris Bowden has confirmed that they have sold the Wild Violet French GTHO, the Yellow GMPA or what ever it was A9X and the Monza Green GTHO that starred in the So Tuff video.
They have been sold for an absolute truckload and usually they would not have sold them but the opportunity was there to buy the Johnson cars , so it happened

The Bowdens have bought Tru Blu, Greenstuffed, Grp A Mustang, Grp A Sierra, and the EB and AU supercars.

The guy that bought the cars from the Bowdens is no dill. He'll keep them how they should be.
The Bowdens will probably look after the Johnson cars better than Dick would. You only have to have a look at the quality of the resto's and how the cars are kept.

The Bowdens own range of car care products has been formulated to make sure it doesn't damage original paint on these old cars.
The profits also go to keeping these wonderful cars in pristine condition
