That would have been night races, I think at Calder IIRC and buggered if I can remember who had pole. I will take a stab though and say JOhn Bowe?

I was at that night race at Calder in 97. First race Channel 10 covered IIRC. Bugger all crowd there as it was freezing cold that night & I think Doug is right, Seto had pole but W.G. won the round in the Coke Commodore VS.

Was also at the EC round in 96 under lights & that was Lowndes first ATCC win in a cracker of a duel with Bowe in the #1 Shell FAI EF. The biggest problem with night races was you couldn't see who was who untill they were going past you. Thats probably why they don't run them anymore.

Anyone remember the Brock clessic night event at Calder in 95?? That was the event when Seton & Skippy ran the Bridgestone Falcons after AJ nicked off with there Phillip Morris $$$$$'s.

Does anyone remember if/when the V8s used a shortened circuit at Eastern Creek where they went straight ahead at turn 4 (?) and rejoined at the hairpin in front of "Corporate Hill" ? I cannot recall whether they actually used it or whether it was another class, but seem to recall it being branded as too dangerous and has never happened again since....

yeah they did it once from memory, it was either 96 or 97 when they ran a night race.

I seem to recall JB having some sort of problems with a tyre barrier but I could be wrong.

They originally planned to use it for one of the grand finales at eastern creek too, back when it held two rounds from memory.

I think they canned it when they figured that there was the danger of a sharp hump in the track causing dramas with cars lifting off the deck.

Funny to think EC went from the jewel in TC's crown at one stage to being dropped a couple of years later, trademark random changes of heart anyone? :(

That would be the one I have on vid peregerine,Didn`t know exactly what they done there but watched a bit of it before posting and rememberd the cars coming around left hander an then straight into a chicane and lifting wheels in the night time looked spectactular.[drive]

It was the first round in 1996. Lowndes cleaned up. He won the first heat during the day (it was hot as in Sydney) and the night race too. If I recall correctly, JB had brake problems which plagued DJR for the first few rounds then an engine drama. I think I have that round on video somewhere....
