Wakefield Park ? Marcus?s Diary!
Well it?s never easy sitting on the sidelines of a motor race when Petrol flows in your veins, especially when it?s your own
class of racing. It?s even worse when it?s 5 degrees and you?re stuck outside a nice warm racecar!
I can?t complain too much, the #61 FirstRock AU is well on the way back to being a racecar again and we only have to
endure missing this one race. The ?old AU? is back at DJR now and being rebuilt by the incredible crew at DJR over the
next six weeks in time for a test mid-July before the QLD 300 race on July 21-23.
Anyway, back to the weekend! It was another up-and-down affair for DJR with Luke Youlden filling in for the absent
Grant Denyer while he filmed ?It Takes Two?. Luke was immediately on the pace and put the car where it needed to be
all weekend and eventually finished 2nd overall including an amazing 36th to 6th drive in the Reverse Grid Race 2. Andrew
Thompson had another great start to the weekend qualifying in 11th and moving forward in Race 1 to finish 10th. In the
reverse grid Race 2, Andrew led Luke around for a few laps until Luke continued his charge through the field. On lap 15,
Kanga Loaders driver Chris Pither had a moment coming back onto the main straight and T-boned innocent Andrew. It
was an accident very reminiscent of Grant?s accident with Mark Porter at last year?s Grand Finale at Phillip Island. The
Latitude Developments? BA Falcon was unrepairable but thankfully Andrew was unhurt. The hit actually broke the Side
Impact X Bars across the driver?s door, it literally sheared them off. Scary, scary impact.
I kept myself busy most of the weekend signing autographs out the back of our pits. Honestly, I spent most of the time
explaining why Grant wasn?t there! It was amazing how much support there was for Dick Johnson Racing, and the
Fujitsu Series in such a small town like Goulburn. Even though there were probably only 10,000 people there, they
endured fog in the morning and freezing single digit temperatures to see a great day of racing and action. Thank you for
your hospitality Goulburn. And sorry for the long showers!!!
I?d just like to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors, Clinique Skin Supplies For Men, Spy Optics, PPS Hairwear
and Puma for their continued support through this rough time! Thanks Guys!
As you can imagine, I?m hanging to get back in a race car and thankfully it?s only 6 weeks away now. I?m training harder
than ever through winter and can?t wait to get back in the car.
See you all at Queensland!
