Thursday Qualifying
The Team was on track in Melbourne for the first time today for practice and qualifying. Once again The Team has hit the ground running in the lead up to the AGP support races, all cars qualifying within 0.3 seconds of each other! The team spent the day running on old tyres borrowed from an old Massey Ferguson tractor found on a property just outside Melbourne. "We will be saving our tyres as much as we can this weekend because I need the cash, my last phone bill was huge." said Dick Johnson.
Team boss Malcolm Swetnam was ecstatic with the television coverage Dean Fiore got at Clipsal whilst getting in Will Davisons way so he has fitted bigger rear vision mirrors to all four DJR cars to make it easier for the drivers to see the leaders coming. In what could be a stroke of genius from the team, they have qualified at the rear of the field so they don't waste tyres on tomorrows qualifying race, all four cars should be parked very early. Steve Johnson said "we are going to park the cars next to the transporters during the qualifying race tomorrow so the fans can get a photo with the best looking cars in the field parked next to the best looking transporters".
Jamie Whincup set the fastest time in todays qualifying session followed by the Fords of Mark Winterbottom, Cheeseburger and Will Davison. Tomorrows qualifying race will determine starting positions for Saturdays Race. In an interesting twist to the qualifying rules this weekend the bottom 8 cars will drop out after the first 3 laps and the drivers will switch to postie bikes. After another 3 laps the next ten will switch to motorized scooters and after another 3 laps the last 10 drivers will switch to push scooters. They will then do another 3 laps and the positions they finish will be placed in a hat and numbers drawn out by Plucka Duck wearing a prosthetic forehead with a propeller attached. "Thish ish yet another exshiting inovashion by V8 Shupercars" Tony Cochrane told a saturated press scrum.
The Team will be back on track very briefly for the qualifying race tomorrow.
