What does everyone think about the long break mid season?.
I think the sport looses momentum both with peoples interest and the media. What have mags like Auto Action or Motorsport News got to report on?
If they really want to rival the other sporting codes, if anything they need to condense the series to keep up the interest and excitement.
Perhaps the series would be better from March or April through to early December with races every 2 to 3 weeks.

I made this comment a couple of weeks ago.

"Reading through a lot of Forums and other V8 related sites it was interesting to note a big drop in interest for the racing over the weekend, (this site included) with Townsville less than 2 weeks away the interest in racing may pick up a little before everyone loses interest again for a nine week break before Phillip Island.

What a ridiculous way to run a sport, can you imagine any other sport having a break for four weeks then have a month with just two rounds then another 2 months break, add to that the fact that no testing is allowed during the extended break.

What brain dead sporting organisation would come up with such a concept?"

Is a joke alright, They could at least run a DVS race at Wakefeild or something.
Its the middle of winter and its 2 rounds till Bathurst .
Im seeing alot more updates from the drivers on Facebook now, They must be bored!

Not Sure?

[sh]Depends how long the break over summer is really.

It has always been a long & boring time between seasons in previous years.

How long is the gap going to be this year from last to first race will be the descider for me. [sh]

Every sport has its end of season break, including V8 supercars, but no other sport that I know of has two extended breaks in the middle of a season, one which last for nine weeks, bloody ridiculous.

Of course from the view point of an avid fan, I find it somewhat ludicrous that they have a big mid-season smoko. I honestly struggle with a 3-4 week stint between races, but from the perspective of team personnel I think they thoroughly deserve a bit of extra time with their families and friends.

With the 2 biggest races of the year fast approaching, I do realise that it won't be "tools down" for two months, but it will be 8 weeks in the same state and maybe the chance at a bit of R&R. I reckon the guys deserve it.

However....

BRING ON THE ENDURO'S!!!!!

The way the series is run looks like a laughing stock compared to the top categories in most other countries. I'm not against having a two teired series and a break between each, however the reast of the season's events seem haphazard and intermittent and don't seem to follow a reasonable schedule.

If the series was to follow a more regular format we might actually be able to push TV coverage to be better (not split around VFL) and have more viewers when it is. The series is very dissapointing from that point of view.

I really feel that if the series ran every fortnight , Qualifying saturday , racing sunday, for the sprint rounds of the season, and then monthly for the enduro's , viewer numbers would increase.

I guess whilst our series has to take a second spot to all three codes fo footy, cricket, netball, poker tournaments and tiddleywinks, it's never going to become a regular series like nascar.

Garth Tander has come out in E-news saying how much of a joke the 9 week break as any momentum that they have built up has just been lost as well as a load of other reasons.

Finally Garth has finally come out with something that makes sense
