Welcome to our Trivia Forum! We'll be posting all sorts of questions in here to test your knowledge of your favourite racing category and team.

With today's unveiling of DJR's 2004 cars & drivers, I was reminded that over the years, DJR has attracted many accomplished and talented drivers to their ranks, including a former Touring Car World Cup winner, a World Drivers Champion, in addition to the 6 ATCC titles, 2 Sandown enduro wins, and of course the 3 Bathurst 1000 victories the team has accumulated.

To start the ball rolling, and keep your minds working over the weekend, I have a two-part question:

1. Name three former Gold Star (Australian Drivers Championship) winners who have been entered to race DJR cars in the endurance races.

2. Name three former Formula 1 pilotes who have also raced with DJR at Bathurst.

Good call rusky26

But as I was doing the dishes I it dawned on me:
There is more than 3 Gold star winners that have driven for DJR.
So here thay are (In order of winning the Gold Star):

Kevin Bartlett
Alfie Constanzo
John Bowe
David Brabham
Paul Stokel
Jason Bright

I am an Idiot.

Im siting here and the light bulb went "Ping".
Add David Brabham to the list of DJR drivers who have driven F1.

Now I will be a bit of a smart a+%e.

Dick himself has been seen in a F1 car.
For all those who have a good collection of motor racing mags, dig through them and have a look.
(I will give you a hint try mid 80's and look at the April issuses)

Hey JC you wouldn't be talking about the mockup of DJ behind the wheel of a Mclaren and the supposed rumour of him having a start in the Oz GP, would you?

Henry

JC is right on the ball. There are more than three former Gold Star champions who have driven (or practiced) DJR's cars; similarly, there is one ex-Formula 1 driver nobody has mentioned yet... as a little hint: it was a long, long time ago...

Henry, this is just a wild guess but would it be Vern schuppan - I know he did sports cars but not sure on the F1 deal?

Dick Johnson tested a mclaren F1 car at Silverstone with a view to racing in the Australian GP at Adelaide was the cover story on Auto Action dated the 1st of April . I dont have the copy any more but i do remember it. It was in the mid 80's.

Good call Doug.
Auto Action April 1 1997 A mock up photo of DJ "testing" a Mclaren.
A good April Fools.

Henry:
I think I am stumped.
A couple of questions:
DJR startred in 1980 correct ?
This F1 driver would he perhaps raced or practiced a DJR car in a race other than Bathurst ?
And...Has this F1 driver practiced F1 but not raced F1 ?

JC : DJR started much earlier as an evolution of DJA (dick johnson automotive) as was his business in the seventies.

OK.
If you classify DJA (or the old Bryant days) as part of DJR.
Then you are indeed correct. Vern Schuppan did indeed drive F1.
13 races infact: From 1972 to 1975 and then 1977.

Sorry about the confusion. I thought you count DJR from 1980 onwards.

When I posted this question, I was thinking of:
1. Kevin Bartlett, John Bowe, Alf Costanzo, and Jason Bright (conveniently forgetting Paul Stokell - SORRY MATE!), and
2. Alan Jones, Larry Perkins, Vern Schuppan, and David Brabham, who have all started in multiple GP's... (I didn't think Max had actually started a GP, but had been a Williams tester).

It's fast becoming apparent that not only do are our members people of discerning tastes in their preferred race team, but also are a very well informed and knowledgable bunch! Well done guys! I'm obviously going to have my work cut out finding curly ones for you to answer. Feel free to post any of your own as well! I'll have a bit of a think and start a new thread shortly!
