Hi All

DJR are having a ride day at QR on Monday 14th December. I have been lucky enough to score a ride in one of the current FG's. I won my chance through being a Team Mate. I am scheduled to go for a spin at 2.30pm and I am looking forward to it.

The last V8 that I went in was an AU, so it will be good to compare how much better the current car is to a few years ago. If anyone is on holidays or at a loose end on Monday arvo, pop out and cheer me on. I am going to take the GT for a run out there all going well. I changed the engine last weekend and I am taking it on a club run on Sunday, so if I don't have any issues I will give it a run out to QR as well.

Cheers
John :)

You chaps are sooooo funny. :)

I am one of those people that never wins anything, so I was blown away when I was told that I had scored a ride with DJR. My boys will be operating the camera, so the happy snaps might not be up to Poita's standard, but I do intend to capture the moment on film.

Catch you on Monday Maq. We can talk in more detail about your Q if you like. I will be there around 1.30pm.

Oh and please don't ban me, I like stirring you lot up!

Cheers John

Come on bud it has been 24hrs sinse your Blast. where is the story. I got there early and by the time 1pm came the young fella and I had enough of the heat so we took off. We past you at Swanbank. Did you hear my poor excuse for a horn. Steve was having a ball Drifting into turn 1 on the out laps and fish tailing up the middle out of the last left hander.[drive][drive]

OK Fellas, I am back. I am a bit busy this week and I have had Internet issues as well.

I arrived at 1.30pm and filled out the necessary paperwork and put on a race suit. The team was running ahead of schedule, so I jumped into #17 at about 2pm for my ride of a lifetime. I did 2 laps with Jonathon Webb and it was awesome. The FG is certainly a massive step up from an AU, which is the last V8 that I have been in.

I managed to watch Jon for about half of the second lap to see how he goes about driving these beasts and I can tell you that he makes it look easy. These drivers are extremely busy behind the wheel and there is not a second that goes by when they are not changing gears up or down or braking and turning. He made it all look very easy though!

Now for my hot lap/s. I got strapped in and we were off towards turn 1 in a flash, 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear and a light dab on the brakes before the car turns into 1 and then a quick squirt up to turn 2. A light dab of the brakes again and then through the gears up the back straight. From turn 3 to turn 6 is a very busy bit of track. The car is either accelerating, braking or turning. Once we came out of turn 6 in 2nd gear under full accleration, the main straight was a blur and we were doing about 260k's down towards turn 1.

Going through turn 1 at race pace is an awesome experience. The car goes from squirming and twitching under a heavy brake application, to slight wheel spin and twitching sideways under acceleration. The main thing that really blew me away was the fact that Jon could mash the pedal hard against the floor when we were just about to enter the apex of the corner. In a normal race car the driver would still be braking and setting themselves up for a nice exit line to drift out to the edge of the corner under acceleration.

In a V8 Supercar, the driver has the confidence to nail it when the car is still entering and understeering into the corner. The car just holds the line and before I knew it we were going up through the gears on the back straight again. It was over very quickly, but it was an experience that I will never forget. Thank you to Dick and all the team that were on hand Monday to provide me with a memory that I will always cherish.

I spoke to Jonathon after he jumped out of the car and he is very excited about next year. DJR will receive his ex 888 FG early next week. Adrian Burgess is going to help with engineering on his car, but Johnathon will basically have his own team of people that will work on his car. Similar to Jason Bright and SBR I guess.

Cheers
John
