With the announcement of a BMW Factory effort next year in the GT category and their choice of GT over V8's, is this the start of a manufacturer influx to GT's in Australia? Nissan have also stated that they are looking to enter their GT-R's in Australian GT series when they can get it sorted as well. What does this mean, if anything, for V8 Supercars long term? BMW said that their own GT programme will be cheaper than a V8 programme. The fact that the GT cars, no matter from which manufacturer, will actually be "their' car, not a contrived version of their car, would have to be so much more attractive to manufacturers, in a marketing sense, to showcase that particular company's technical prowess. Everyone has seen the popularity of the GT category grow and the number of entries also grow over that last 5 or so years, and the number of entries in V8's slowly shrink in the same amount of years. What is the landscape of top line Australian motorsport going to look like in the next 5 years or so?
