I'm having a bad hair night - the brain's a bit sore from setting up my new PC, so I haven't come up with a testing trivia question for you. HOWEVER... I thought it might be fun to ask: Who is your favourite driver, and why? I won't limit this to a particular class of racing, and I'll bet that there just might be a DJR driver or two among them :D

I'll get the ball rolling and start with a heap of names who rate for mine, in no particular order: Pete Geoghegan: although I've never seen film footage of him in his Mustangs, let alone seen it in the flesh, the superlatives heaped upon the big fella by the likes of Bill Tuckey meant that he cast a long shadow over just about everyone who aspired to be a touring car champion in this country ever since. He must have been something.

Kevin Bartlett: when I was cutting my teeth on Gp C tourers, KB was belting around in the Camaro, with the thing stuck out at all angles. He always came across as being very relaxed about what he was doing. Having read much about his earlier career, I am in awe of the man's innate skill, and what amounted to inhuman fearlessness: after all, he let the F5000's take a couple of big swipes at him, and they invented the term "the Lola Limp" to describe the results.

I could add a heap more: Allan Moffat, Alan Jones, Niki Lauda, Larry Perkins, Craig Lowndes, for starters, but during my formative years, there were none greater than...

Dick Johnson: although I only discovered him in the aftermath of The Rock in 1980, from then on for me, as a then-eight year-old Ford fan, he was the Man. The laconic one-liners, the no-fuss visage on Seven's RaceCam, the bellow of the Big Henries as the Pride of Queensland gave it everything he had, battling what seemed at the time to be a sea of Holdens. It made him the saviour of an entire generation of Ford supporters, previously cast adrift when the Blue Oval walked away from us. He was there for the return of the Big Birds in 93, ever-faithful to Ford; and for the death-or-glory years of touring car racing through the 80's and 90's, I thank him

as i have only been getting into the V8s in the past 2 years guys, i do not know all of the older drivers. I do know that Dick Johnson was a great years ago and still to this day, but sadly my favourite driver isnt part of DJR, my favourite driver is Marcus Ambrose (and its not only because he wins).

Hmmm. Favourite drivers, definately Dicky as #1, then no real order: Gricey, Jnr. Lowndes, Besnard, Rat, Ambrose and Murph.

Great topic Henry. This is actually so hard to start.I'm lucky to be old enough to have seen Big Pete Geoghan in action, the attitude he could get on a car and still have it completely under control. If Pete couldn't get it to go,no one could. He could and often did drive around problem's with the car's.Allan Moffat in his day there was no better. Probably not the most gifted, but definitely the technically correct.Back in the HO day's plenty of bloke's could go as fast as him,for a few laps.He could do it lap after lap and not destroy the tyre's or the car.A lot of older bloke's will tell you the best touring car race in Australia ever was Easter at Bathurst 72 where Big Pete in the super Falcon and Allan Moffat went at each other for 42 lap's and finished a couple of tenth's of a second from each other. Both car's had broken light's and dented panels the racing was so close.(see both these car's at www.fouronthefloor) John Goss was another extremely talented diver that could get anything to go fast.Unlucky not to win Bathurst in 73.Dick well what more can you say,his record speak's for itself, and as Henry said he was the saviour in a grid full of holden's.I think Dick actually got people interested in racing Ford's again.Sorry could go on and on but here are my favourite's Big Pete Allan Moffat Dick Johnson Craig Lowndes Marcos Ambrose John Bowe Peter Brock John Goss Glenn Seton all these bloke's were or are the best in there era and they are nice guy's to boot

im only new to this but here goes. firstly go djr and best of luck for the new season. one of my most favourite driver is of course dick johnson. i remember watching him in the el at bathurst that was a great race and i was so happy when djr won it. i have got alot of respect for him because when bad luck was looking him in the face he never let it beat him. it was a great shame when dick retired i remeber crying when i heard the announcement but he must have known it was time. anyway im so glad that the club17 has gotten back up and running and im hoping to have heaps of fun with the club.
