That was the Anderson Brothers' GpC/A XE (it was allowed under the NZ rules of the time), which Dick co-drove with Bruce Anderson at the start of 1985... it was, by contemporary accounts, as quick as the proverbial off a shiny shovel, but fragile. It broke axles one after the other and so it wasn't a completely wonderful trip... for the 1986 NZ enduro (Nissan-Mobil) series, DJ took the older of the Mustangs, and painted it black as per Neville Crichton's local sponsorship deal (NC co-drove)... 1987, the same Mustang was back there, but in green, and co-driven by Robbie Ker, who was buying/had bought the car... someone did a right tuen infront of Dick, and the nose got torn off the poor old thing (I saw a photo in Chequered Flag at the time, and she was
bent). It was allegedly rebuilt, although I couldn't say if that were the case, or where it is now.
The Andersons built two Mustangs of their own... DJ did give them some assistance (I read a mumbling sort of story-around-the-campfire recently about the yellow cars, and the story went that the Pinepac team were pulled aside at a race meeting, and told of the changes they needed to make to have the yellow cars "legal", should the scrutes ever examine a yellow car, and a similar vehicle of another colour side-by-side... and told in a growling voice to get it done as soon as possible... if this actually happened...
