Quick Quiz... bit of fun...

  • 1. "Your knowledge and input is always welcome but please respect the team, the drivers and other members. Abuse or harsh criticisms will not be tolerated".

    2. "This forum is designated 'Family Friendly' - (ie. we have young & impressionable readers - even if they're not Members/Posters) - therefore language must be moderated! - (how would YOU feel about YOUR 9 year old reading it?)

    3. "Use of characters (eg. #$*@!) that only 'partially' disguise an intended vulgar/offensive word(s) is unacceptable!
If you MUST express yourself in such a manner... use ***** and let the reader's imagination 'fill in the blanks'."

    Thank you for your cooperation.

I was a touring car driver, who drove for three factory teams in my career, and managed 1 works team post-driving...

... my missus raced for three works teams herself in her career...

During one of my works stints, I was teamed with a driver who himself raced for three works teams quite successfully...

As a manager, I employed 1 driver who drove for five factory teams in his career, and another two who drove for 2 works squads themselves...

Who am I?
Who's me missus?
Who was my team-mate?
Who are the blokes I hired?

Which works teams are mentioned above for all parties?

2 from five there indeed, Gerry, and to tell you the truth, I hadn't thought to mention H at all... nor Lowndes...

Mmmm, Gerry, you're doing my head in now! I had forgotten that he had driven with Bond, and I hadn't really considered the MFD team as the Works squad in the fullest sense... but that adds a little more complexity to it all...

I can think of a few names Henry but the thing that's got me is 5 FACTORY teams.
Not one of those Japanese imports he brought in for Bathurst is it?

Col, you're a bloody witch... who drove the Tojos but?

Fred Gibson drove for Ford, Alfa (briefly, to fill in for the missus) & Nissan works teams. He managed the Nissan works squad from 1985 onwards.

Christine Gibson (nee Cole) raced at Bathurst for the HDT as half of an all-girl team with Sandra Bennett (their 13th position in the 1970-IIRC - event was only eclipsed by Melinda Price/Kerryn Brewer's 12th in 1998, as the best finishing position for an all-girl team. She damn near won an ATCC in an Alfa class car in about 1975, and shared the works Pulsar EXA in 1983-84. Sadly she's probably most-remembered as being in the 6th placed XD in 1981, and unitentionally slamming the door in Bob Morris' face at McPhillamy Park on lap 121 or thereabouts...

Fred's Ford team-mate Allan Moffat was a works driver for Ford, Mazda and Holden (through the HDT)...

Fred, as Nissan team manager, employed Glenn Seton (works driver for Nissan, Ford and Holden), Mark Skaife (works drives for Nissan and Holden) and Jim Richards (incredibly, works driver for Holden, BMW, Nissan, Ford & Volvo - in 2ltr).

As someone pointed out, Gibbo shared the 1978 drive at Bathurst with COlin Bond, himself a works driver for Holden, Ford and Alfa Romeo.

Yep, Father took the Nissan gig "for the money"... Dick wasn't best pleased, but understood... pity then that 1983 wasn't a good year for DJR, as the Johnson/Bartlett combination had the potential to be dynamite.

As a young fan at the time, I can remember thinking that 1983 was going to be our year... the car had come good, and we had Sniffer, the Man With Unfeasibly Large Testicles on board as co-steerer... there should've been nothing to stop us... except for some tyres set in concrete, and a broken tie rod...

If you went to the ever popular www.allanmoffat.com.au , you could tell that AM drove for:

- the official Lincoln Mercury team in Trans Am in 1967(although entered in his own name),
- the Shelby Mustang team in Trans Am in 1968, (a works team by any other name)
- the Ford Special Vehicles team in Australia
- the Ford Cologne team at Mt Fuji in 1973
- the works BMW team for the Sebring 12-Hours in 1975
- the works Mazda team at Le Mans in 1982
- the works Holden team in 1980 and 1986
- the Porsche Australia team of Alan Hamilton in 1980 (a bit of a stretch I know)

[:p]

ah Beej, it's been a while since I've swung past there :D, and had forgotten about Allan's BMW drive... didn't think I'd come up with a bad one, considering I pulled it all straight out of my arse...:D

Hey, don't get me wrong, you put up a good one!

It's hard to come up with something interesting and challenging for the train-spotters in here. :D

What about the train drivers?

Train-drivers don't give a @#$%. They just do it on the shovel and throw it in the fire :D

(Real train-drivers, that is. Not these switch-monkeys [:p])
