The Team headed into Albert Park early this morning to prepare for this afternoon's practice and qualifying sessions.
Despite a morning filled with torrential showers, the first practice session of the day was dry and blustery. Using pre-marked tyres in order to preserve new tyre stocks for qualifying and the weekend's races, the Jim Beam Falcon's struggled for rear grip on the Australian Grand Prix circuit.
The conditions for practice two mimicked those of the morning session. Many of the teams in pit lane used this session to run new green soft tyres, but sticking to older, hard compound tyres, the The Team was split with car 17 in 12th and car 12 in 24th.
The cars headed out in the twilight for the half hour qualifying session to set the grid positions for tomorrow's Qualifying Race. The Jim Beam cars failed to keep pace with the top half of the field, with the disappointing finish positions a poor reward for the huge effort put in by the whole team over the last two weeks.
Mark Fenning, Race Engineer on car 17, still couldn't pin point the reason for the Jim Beam Racing Falcon's finish in 19th position, "All four cars are using different setups, yet we just can't seem to separate them."
The highly experienced Senior Engineer on Dean Fiore's Jim Beam Devil's Cut Falcon, John Waterman, was frustrated at the 25th position, "Two driving errors forced the car to return to the pits twice during the session, meaning Dean only managed to get one flying lap in during the whole 30 minute session."
The non-Championship event for the V8 Supercars continues tomorrow at Albert Park with the Qualifying Race. The grid positions for tomorrow afternoon's race will be determined by a 'drop zone' tomorrow morning. At the end of lap 3, the bottom 3 cars will excluded. The bottom three cars from every lap will dropped until we have the top 10.
