Intersting rule "interpretations"!

  • 1. "Your knowledge and input is always welcome but please respect the team, the drivers and other members. Abuse or harsh criticisms will not be tolerated".

    2. "This forum is designated 'Family Friendly' - (ie. we have young & impressionable readers - even if they're not Members/Posters) - therefore language must be moderated! - (how would YOU feel about YOUR 9 year old reading it?)

    3. "Use of characters (eg. #$*@!) that only 'partially' disguise an intended vulgar/offensive word(s) is unacceptable!
If you MUST express yourself in such a manner... use ***** and let the reader's imagination 'fill in the blanks'."

    Thank you for your cooperation.

I can't remember if we have discussed this before and if we did it was a long while ago. I have always found the rule interpretations of some teams very interesting to say the least. Gerry raised the subject of the Masterton Homes "flap" on the front of their XE at another forum. What are some of the other "interpretations" you can remember?

How about DJR's first V8 Supercar.
Ruled to be too much like a sports sedan but built the same way they do it today apart from the engine making up part of chassis

Dickie getting in trouble with the scrutineers when he had sides attached to the fuel tank (Aero affect) on the Greens Tuf XE. I think it was Masterton who protested, at the end of the day you could have them, but they had to be a permanent part of the tank, ie welded on.

I thought it was the other way around Benny. Masterton turned up at Surfer's Paradise with the wings and someone protested. Dick was blamed for the protest but he swears it wasn't him.

Brocky activating the fire extinguisher to cool his turbo intake down during his top 10 shootout in 1989.. resulted in a fantastic time and put his 05 sierra on pole..
thats called thinking outside the box.[bw]

This wasn't an interpretation it was downright cheating.

Walkinshaws Jaguars all had 2 bladders in the fuel tanks.

On was a legitimate fuel bladder
The other has a hose secreted in the car that came out of the dash like a drink bottle hose.
At races end the driver blew through that drink bottle house and inflated the other bladder in the tank.

When the fule capacity was tested in scrutineering the proper bladder would only hold what they were permitted to carry.

Mike Roddy who owns the Jag said in an Auto Action article that they put over 140 litres of fuel into it.. IIRC they were only supposed to have a 110 or 120 litre tank

Winfield Commy boys were acused of Traction control. So TEGA banned rear wheel speed sensors.
Skaife and richards hardly win another race after absolutely dominating the early part of the 94 season.
Most of these guys went on to the HRT and larry perkins then made similar complaints

That was a good find.

IIRC the only car to be found outside of the rules after all the protests that year was Walkinshaws own Commodore
