Moffat Cenovis Falcon in 1993, I think in 1994 they upgraded to a DJR spec fuel injected donk.

The last with a carby im guessing would have been one of the old VL's that ran in 1994.

The oldest Holdens in the 1994 event were "Walkinshaw"-spec, so I'd have been surprised if there was a carby amongst them.

Moffat's Cenovis Falcon had a carbied Holman Moody donk in it for 1993, but leased a DJR unit for 1994. Dunno what they did with the exhaust setup but it was the loudest of the Falcons there!

and btw Car61, that's a GREAT shot of Marvin with the prettiest of his hardtop liveries!

Enjoy Henry !

Yes, it's a good looking car Henry... I have it on a Bar Mirror!

I also quite liked this one:

And, of course... have a real 'soft spot' for this one:

Some more trivia: Moffat's yellow XD, which was hastily prepared for the 1980 Haredie-Ferodo 1000, was intended to have been painted in the same colour scheme as the last XC hardtop: the late decision to build the car meant that the project started 6 weeks from the race, and time ran out to have the car painted, so it went to the line in its original duco...

the 1973 hardtop WAS a gorgeous bit of kit too!

I agree with HH and Henry, Moffat's Cenovis Falcon in 1993 would have been the last carbied car to run at the mountain.

The VL's ran the twin throttle body Walkinshaw EFI set up.

Henry, you are spot on about the Moffat XD too. What a dismal failure that car was in 1980. The car had a huge success in the years following though. A good friend of mine John English ran the car for many years after that and it won alot of races here at Lakeside etc.

David Bowden hassled John to sell it to him, as the running gear in the XD actually came from the #2 Bond Hardtop and David bought that car at an auction some years ago. The idea was to get the XD and rip out the running gear and put it all back into the Hardtop.

In the meantime Group C car values went through the roof and the XD was worth keeping together. It is after all the last Falcon that Moffat ran at Bathurst. The XD was also owned and raced by Lloyd Bax, who sadly passed away some years ago and was a good friend of the Bowden family.

Bathurst racing history for the Moffat XD.

1980 - Car #1 Moffat Yellow Federation Insurance XD
1981 - Did not run at Bathurst in 1981
1982 - Car #14 English Yellow / Black Valley Meat Hall XD
1983 - Car #23 English White / Blue Pye Audio XD
1984 - Car #14 English Black Pye Audio XD

She had a good innings that is for sure.

Cheers
John

I thought the Bowdens had the yellow XD prior to the Bond coupe, but there you go!

The ex-Moffat XD made its mark at Bathurst in 1984!

The colour was deliberate though. They knew there was no time so AM asked for TV friendly colours: red or yellow.

Wasn't Willmingtons EB also a carby version - and it also ran quite a bit of the running gear from the Jag from memory??

Yes that is correct Henry. David bought the Moffat XD purely because it had all the good bits from the Bond XC. He knew that one day the Bond car would come up for sale and the plan was to restore the Bond coupe back to the 1977 Bathurst.

The good news is that the Moffat XD has not been used as a donor car to restore the Bond car. They managed to source enough period correct parts for the Bond car.
