Bill mentioned in an interview with AMC, that the works team were giving their tie rods a touch with the angle grinder to make a bit of extra clearance, but Bill was reluctant to compromise the structural integrity of the part... ironic, wot?

Bathurst 2009 was a disaster for DJR. Who can tell me the last time both DJR cars did not start in the top 10 and the strange similarity to this year? Although car 17 was the last classified finisher yesterday, when was the last time a DJR car did not finish at Bathurst and what happened to each car?

I'm not sure, but in the risk of making a fool of myself, I'll have a stab at it.

I don't even know if it was the same year but did McConville stick number 19 into the wall and then Dick got smashed into the wall at I think it was maybe Reid Park turning the car into a crushed tin can. I can't even remember the year???

Damo,

The year you refer to is 1993. A young McConville put 18 into the wall early at the esses. Although the damage was substantial, the team made sufficient repairs and got 18 back out and finished the race in 8th position. Dick later wrote off car 17 when he was T-Boned by Bill O'brien who bounces off the wall at Reid Park. BTW, you are incorrect :)

HH,

Correct! 1998 was the last time both DJR cars DNF'd at Bathurst. Steve Johnson clipped the wall in 17 going into Forests Elbow avoiding a pile up and broke the rear wing/boot assembly. 18 retired with engine dramas.

Prior to that, in 1991 DJR entered 3 Sierra's and they all DNF's. 17 & 18 were plagued by electrical interference in their Engine Management System all weekend and retired with Piston failures and 19 broke a tail shaft which ripped a hole in the floor in-turn severing the battery cable leaving no power.

Can anyone name the other year a DJR car was not in the shootout prior to 2009?

Hi Rob17, and this is splitting hairs but Steve was able to pull up car 17 in 1998 without hitting anything, only to have Simon Wills clip his right rear en route to his huge crash, rendering car 17 useless for the rest of the day.

2002 was a shocker in one respect - highest qualifier was Ritter with a time good enough for 7th, however it was disallowed and he subsequently started 15th. (top 15 runoff, not top ten.)
In the race, the striking similarity was car 17 breaking a left front suspension part, which pitched the Rat into the wall at or near the dipper.

Not splitting hairs Doug. You are correct. Actually the following year in 99 there was similar carnage at the elbow when Mezera spun on his own oil in the Densitron Commodore and Steve clipped him in the AU slightly damaging the front right. Thankfully he was able to continue...

Now THIS is splitting hairs Doug :) but I didn't include 2002 as Ritter did participate in the Shootout. I was thinking about 2004 when neither Junior nor David Brabham qualified in the top 10. The similarity to 2009 was that not only did both cars miss the ten, but car 17 started from position 13 in 2004 as they did this year.

Good logic though...

At the risk of being wrong, my records show junior 8th in the top ten 2003 with a 2:08.6875
My bad if I am wrong
Car 17 though, did finish 13th, with car 18 just ahead this time in 12th.
2004 saw car 17 in 13th qualifying whilst 18 languished in 24th.

You and I both Rob - still in shock I think, however roll on the rest of the year, and bring on a huge 2010 for the team.

It's taken me a couple of days to figure out why everyone is steering clear of me at work!
A couple of people skited about the Commodes early on Monday morning but it stopped pretty quickly. I'm assuming my face said something they didn't like.

Yep It's been a year of so much promise , . . . . . . and so little delivery

and not just from DJR but for the whole Blue side, in fact even more so.

Discounting Tr888or which is for all intents and purposes now a Holden team, it was a total and dismal failure by all Ford teams carte blanche, I am so glad that i wasn't at the event the drive home would have been painfull.

On the bright side, there is really no lower to go from here.
